Children at risk of abuse and neglect have parents who are ordinary people caught in life situations that seem beyond their control. There is no single reason for child abuse or neglect. Parents may be unemployed and facing chronic financial pressures; they may be struggling to raise children alone, or are lacking support from family and friends. Most often, problems pile up, a crisis occurs and a child is put at risk.
Every incident of abuse or neglect can alter a child's life, but there are things that we can do to prevent it. National child welfare organizations, state task forces and social-service experts have concluded that early intervention is an effective method of child-abuse and neglect prevention.
The objectives of the CHSFS' Parent Support Services are:
- To provide safe care for children
- To partner with parents to identify solutions that address the underlying causes of family crisis
This program provides support for parents in resolving the underlying causes of crisis, through education and referrals to community resources.
Services are provided through our Parent Support Services in Anoka, Chisago, Dakota, Isanti and Ramsey counties. Services are voluntary and confidential, provided at no cost to the family and available to all families with children.
In order to provide services that are accessible to all families, CHSFS does not charge fees for Parent Support Services. Therefore community financial support is essential to sustaining these critical prevention services.
