Adoption Services

Our services include international, domestic infant and older-child adoption programs, education and support through Post-Adoption Services and pregnancy counseling. We are proud to be the third largest adoption provider in the United States, and Minnesota’s largest, finding permanent, loving families for more than 22,000 children since 1889. Our services include:

Minnesota’s Waiting Children

There are hundreds of Minnesota’s children in foster care waiting for adoptive homes. Most are school-age children who have experienced neglect or abuse. Our Minnesota's Waiting Children program assists families to become a healing resource and provide a loving home to a child or sibling group.

Open Adoption & Pregnancy Counseling

We facilitate open adoptions where birthparents and adoptive parents meet, select each other and agree to an ongoing relationship centered on the best interest of the child. Through this program, domestic infants are adopted and birthparents facing an unplanned pregnancy receive face-to-face counseling at no cost to them. Services are available in Spanish to serve Minnesota’s growing Latina population.

International Adoption

We partner with nearly a dozen countries to find loving homes for children. Last year 777 children were adopted through our international adoption programs in China, Colombia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Kazakhstan, Peru, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Ukraine. Nearly one-third are older children, at-risk and with medical or special needs.

International Child Welfare

Through our international adoptions, we are reminded daily of the need to support vulnerable children throughout the world. The goal of our International Child Welfare programs is to invest sufficiently to change conditions in communities, not merely treat individual problems. Our targeted community-based model provides children with care and protection, preventative and emergency medical care and education.

Post-Adoption Services

Because adoption is a lifelong journey and not a one-time event, our Post-Adoption Services offer education and support for all members of the adoption circle throughout their lives. Programs include: educational offerings, domestic search/background, international intermediary services, travel to birth countries, mentoring program and counseling.ce
