| Helping Moms, Helping Children: 12-session domestic-abuse education and support groups appropriate for mandated or self-referred women and their children (ages 6-11).
The primary goal of this new service is to stop the transmission of domestic violence from one generation to the next. We help moms who have experienced family abuse understand how domestic violence erodes family interactions, affects the way in which a mother cares for her children, and influences how her children behave at home and at school.
During group sessions, moms will learn about the dynamics of domestic violence, gain knowledge of developmentally appropriate parenting skills, healing activities, and problem-solving techniques to strengthen the mother-child bond. Presentations, handouts and class discussions help participants explore their feelings and behaviors and learn effective parenting skills in an environment where they feel safe, capable and respected.
