| On June 13, 2003, the boards of Children's Home Society of Minnesota and Family Services, Inc. voted to merge the two organizations. On July 1, 2003, we became Children's Home Society & Family Services.
Background of the Organizations:
Children's Home Society of Minnesota Founded in 1889 as part of a nationwide movement to find loving homes for orphaned children, CHSM became a premier provider of quality social services for children and families. Over the years, adoption flourished and the agency expanded to keep pace. In the past three decades, CHSM developed a continuum of care to help children of all ages with a broad spectrum of needs. CHSM concentrated on three core service areas: Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention, Early Childhood Education and Adoption.
Family Service, Inc.
Established in 1892, Family Service, Inc. was a social service agency providing professional services to strengthen families and individuals in St. Paul and the surrounding metro area. Family Service provided a broad array of programs that strengthen families and individuals. Programs encompassed all ages and abilities, and include on-site, school-based, and work-site programs and included financial and home ownership counseling; education and support groups; community programs for youth; individual, couple, and family counseling; and learning disabilities consultation.
The Goal of the New Organization of Children's Home Society & Family Services The goal of the merger was that the families and individuals we serve will benefit from enhanced geographic accessibility, diversity of available programs, and professional expertise in a new organization. The merger of these two organizations is proving to achieve economics, efficiencies, and synergies that few organizations can achieve alone.
The Vision: The enhanced excellence of a combined, stronger child and family serving agency will benefit the community and those we serve.
