Tips for communicating with lawmakers:

  • Identify yourself as a constituent right off the bat.
  • Be brief and succinct. It helps to plan what you are going to say before hand.
  • Be personal. Tell your story and why the issue matters so much to you.
  • Request an action. (i.e. “Please support increased funding for early childhood education.”)
  • Thank them for their time.

How to contact your state and federal legislators:

  • Identify State of Minnesota elected officials; search by address and zip code.
  • Contact information for Minnesota’s Congressional Delegation.
  • Minnesota State House Information: 651-296-2146 or 800-657-3550
  • Minnesota State Senate Information: 651-296-0504 or 800-234-1112
  • Review additional tips on contacting your legislators through phone calls, e-mails, letters or office visits.

Remember, hearing from you can sway a legislator’s position. Every voice counts!

Vote in elections:

  • Not registered to vote?  You can register the day of the election.
  • Registered to vote but don't know where your polling place is located? Check out the Minnesota Secretary of State's Pollfinder to identify the voting station in your neighborhood.
