Depending on when and where your adoptive placement took place, Children's Home Society & Family Services can assist you to explore your adoption and learn more about the people, places and situations that may have influenced it.

Domestic Adoption

If your adoption placement happened through CHSFS (formerly Children’s Home Society of Minnesota) or one of our partner agencies, we can assist you to:

  • obtain non-identifying background history
  • search for genetic relatives(i.e. birthparents, birth children, birth siblings).
  • confidentially exchange information with individuals involved in your adoption

The privacy of all parties is protected; each individual may decide the extent to which personal information is shared.

International Adoption

Working within the parameters and laws of the birth country, we work to obtain answers to the questions individuals and families may have. Depending on your birth country, we may be able to assist you to:

  • request clarification of information or additional information from adoption authorities
  • interpret responses from the perspective of birth culture and the history of adoption
  • confidentially exchange information with individuals important to your adoption story (e.g. foster parent, caregiver, birth family)

Available services very greatly from country to country and are limited by the laws of each country and other circumstances.
