Ethnic identity is vital to personal development.

Birthland travel helps connect internationally adopted persons with a sense of history and culture, and can be especially significant when shared with family.

“If I had to pick the most meaningful days in my 58 years, today would definitely be in that group. A huge hole was filled in for my daughter. This was truly a life-changing day, and I am so honored I was able to be with my daughter when it happened.” – Tour Korea! parent

The Children's Home Society & Family Services birthland travel experience is a cooperative effort involving social workers, country specialists, adoptive parent volunteers, adopted adult volunteers, and post-adoption specialists. It explores the culture, traditions, food and lives of everyday people in an adoptee’s country of origin.

"[CHSFS staff member] did a wonderful job meeting with our family. I appreciated her ability to work with my husband and I initially and then to meet with our children. She got us all thinking and sparked conversation at a later time. I would highly recommend a visit with a post-adoption social worker before/after a visit to a birth country. It really made our trip more meaningful and thought out. Thanks for your services." – Birthland Travel Client
