Cleft Lip and Palate
Join us for an informative webinar on cleft lip and palate, a treatable condition that we see in children.  Learn about the medical aspects, common treatments, and how this condition impacts children in the short and long-term.  Along with a cleft lip and palate specialist, we will also be having a family join us who adopted a child with this condition.  You will have the opportunity to ask questions of both the specialist and the family.  Please join us!

Children’s Self-Esteem:  What is it?  How do we impact it?
Knowing what low self-esteem looks like and where it comes from is necessary before you can work to help a child to feel better about themselves.  We will discuss the day-to-day issues that affect a child’s sense of self and different ways that parents and professionals can positively (or negatively) guide a child’s feelings of self-worth.  Active ways to address low self-esteem issues will also be presented.

Help Your Child Grow Healthy and Strong
Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. It is recommended that children and adolescents should do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of physical activity each day. When your gym and after school programs are cut it is up to you to help your kids stay healthy, but how do you do it? Learn tips of how to encourage your kids to be fit and how to become a healthy family.

Family Feeding Dynamics

"Feeding was absolutely central to attachment with our two children."  Adopting families have special concerns around feeding, from unknown feeding history, neglectful or even abusive feeding past,  to weight and growth concerns. Dr. Rowell will share the Trust Model of feeding, (resourced on adoption web-sites, including University of Minnesota's' International Adoption Clinic) paying special attention to concerns with adoption, and illustrating key principles with case studies. There will be time at the end for your questions.
Presenter: Dr Katja Rowell is a family doctor and childhood feeding specialist. She is a member of the clinical faculty with the Ellyn Satter Institute and leads workshops for parents, health care professionals and corporate wellness. She consults with corporate and public health clients.
