Help children in China thrive.

Social Welfare Initiatives

A project to meet needs as they arise in the vast network of Chinese social welfare institutions. According to China's Ministry of Civil Affairs, there are more than 90,000 children residing in their welfare system. The need is great.

Efforts have included:

  • training programs for caregivers and orphanage directors
  • vocational training for older children
  • facility upgrades
  • delivery of needed supplies
  • medical and theraputic equipment for children with special needs

Over the years, CHSFS has touched the lives of thousands of children. The generosity of our donors will enable us to expand the reach of our social welfare initiatives and better the futures of countless children.

Linyi Children's Welfare Institute

Linyi Children’s Welfare Institute is an orphanage located in Shandong province.  In the summer of 2011, it transitions to a children’s welfare institute from a social welfare institute, which provided services for both older adults and children. This change allows Linyi CWI to focus solely on supporting children, the vast majority of whom have special needs. CCCWA has identified this orphanage as one in particular need of support to better serve the children in its care.

With approval from CCCWA, CHSFS established a partnership with Linyi CWI in 2011.  Our goal is to offer the orphanage suggestions, guidance and financial support to help make it possible for the children to thrive and reach their full potential.

In the spring of 2011, staff from Children’s Home Society & Family Services, along with volunteer professionals with expertise in child health and development, traveled to Linyi to work with the Linyi CWI staff and children.  During the week-long visit, our staff gathered information about the medical, social, and educational needs of the children. With that information, we have identified specific areas of need which we would like to help fund including:

  • needed physical therapy equipment
  • establish a foster care program
  • establish a community of volunteers to visit with the children and offer needed stimulation and interaction
  • improved nutrition
  • medical testing to better identify children’s diagnoses

You can help! Participate in a unique sponsorship opportunity where funds are directed to the whole project. As a sponsor you receive reports every six months on the project and its participants. You will get to see children receive services which better their quality of life.

Previous Projects

Tianjin Foster Care Program
For over 10 years, CHSFS collaborated with Tianjin Children's Welfare Institute to support children with special needs and the foster families caring for them.

Children with a diagnosed condition are especially susceptible to the negative impacts of institutional care. Members of the Tianjin community recognized that a foster familiy could provide a vulnerable child with the consistent, individualized care they need to prosper and avoid long-term institutionalization.

Great strides were made to create a quality foster care program.  Financial support offered by committed CHSFS donors was essential for offsetting the costs of special equipment and medical attention that might otherwise deter potential foster families from welcoming one of these precious children into their home.  Additionally, our representative in Tianjin played an integral role in helping to monitor the children who are placed with a foster family.

Today, the Tianjin Children's Welfare Institute foster care program is well-established.  It has close partnerships with various international organizations which help to provide the assistance necessary to maintain a quality foster care system. Children's Home plans to continue offering aid to this project as needed through the CHSFS Orphanage Support Fund.
