Help children in Russia thrive.

You can change conditions for vulnerable children in Russia by providing essential resources and supporting projects designed to help them build a strong foundation for their long-term success.

Orphanage Assistance

Throughout Russia, thousands of children are living in an institutional setting. While international adoption helps bring permanency to some, we cannot forget those left behind. Through orphanage assistance CHSFS helps support those children in Russia through donations, structural improvements, vocational training and more.

Currently we are focusing our efforts on an orphanage in Zhukovka, near Bryansk. The facility cares for about 150 children ages 4-17. Other orphanages in the area are closing, and more than 100 children are expected to come to Zhukovka for care. The orphanage is in desperate need for repairs to accommodate these children.

Our efforts are also focused on Mirnoe Village Respite Home for Children, located in the Khabarovsk region. This facility provides transitional care to children who are removed from their homes or seek refuge from difficult family situations. The population they work with is tough, but their services are providing children with the tools and support they need.

Take a look at what support from donors like you has accomplished in Russia:

  • Children at an orphanage in the Novosergievsky district of Orenburg, Russia, will soon have a new bathhouse to use!  We recently raised $30,000 to replace their shower facilities which had become deteriorated beyond use and a significant safety hazard to the children and staff—the children were sponge bathing to keep clean! Read more about this project on our blog.

  • Boys and girls at the Korsakovo Children’s Home utilize the sewing and crafts room so extensively that their machines broke down. Donations helped purchase two new sewing machines and one interlock machine.

  • The Korsakovo Children’s Home grounds have been greatly improved, which contributes to the health, safety and physical education of the children residing in care as well as children in the surrounding village community. Approximately 86 children have benefited from this project.

  • The Barn Project at Dormidontovka has not only provided children an opportunity to interact with farm animals and help out with chores, it is also helping guide their future professional goals—some children now want to become veterinarians and farmers.

  • The Abilitation Center at Byelskoe Ustye is providing young adults with care as they transition from an orphanage setting to independent living. After three or four years at the center, the young adults are ready to work and live independently.
