As prospective adoptive parents, it is important to know birthparents consider adoption out of love for the child.

If your family is chosen to adopt an infant, it is because the birthparents believe you can provide a loving, caring home for their child, which they are unable to provide.

Children’s Home Society & Family Services is committed to open adoption: an ongoing relationship between the birthparents and the adoptive parents that centers around the needs of the child. This relationship is determined through a mutual agreement between the birthfamily and the adoptive family. The amount of contact in an open adoption can vary.

“I feel CHSFS “does” open adoptions better than any other agency in MN.  Education and commitment to “true” openness is exceptional at CHSFS.” ~ A CHSFS Client

Children's Home provides services to families who are just starting their domestic adoption journey and plan to seek birthparents using their own networks and resources. We provide excellence in pre-adoption education, home study services and we will ensure that you meet all requirements under the law.  We provide a CHSFS URL for you list on our Waiting Parents Profiles webpage, and we will promote your profile using our blog and social media tools to increase your profile's visibility around the country.

Keep in mind that the time frames in open adoption programs are unpredictable.  While some families receive placements in two years or less, other families may have a longer wait. Staff will provide consultation related to your openness with child and family characteristics and how these will affect your wait.

Children's Home also provides high-quality adoption support to families that have independently connected with a birthmother or birthparents.
