Adoption has evolved in the years that we have helped find loving families for children. In open adoption, birth and adoptive parents work together in the child’s best interest.

Women no longer "give up" their child for adoption; instead, birth parents create an adoption plan and establish lifelong relationships with adoptive families.  Birth parents are actively involved in selecting an adoptive family.  If your family is chosen, it is because the birth parents believe you can provide a loving, caring home for their child.

Expectant parents choose an adoptive family for their child, after reviewing waiting parent profiles and meeting with prospective families.

Each adoption is different depending on the openness of the plan; some are distant and some are involved.  In all cases, a good plan establishes a community of people who come together for the well-being of the child. Extended family, such as birth grandparents and siblings, may also be included in fully open adoptions.

Children's Home Society & Family Services will guide you throughout your journey from pre-adoption education to post-placement care.  Children's Home provides pre-adoption education, home study services and networking support  to prospective families living in Minnesota who have not yet identified a birth parent within the United States. We also assist families who have already connected with birth parents.
