Adoption & Child Welfare Services

Working together to help children thrive.
Children's Home Society and Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota are driven by a belief in the fundamental human rights of children to have security, opportunity and a loving family. Our child-centered approach, knowledgeable and caring professional staff, and unparalleled experience over more than a century have made us two of the most trusted and well-respected child welfare providers for families all around the globe.
We focus on helping you, your children and your family through these key service areas:
We unite children with loving, nurturing families nationwide through international adoption in eleven countries. Adoption is a lifelong journey: we strengthen adoptive families through pre- and post-adoption education and support, and we help adopted persons seek a sense of their culture and history. We have two programs serving children in the United States. Through our domestic infant open adoption program, we help you connect with birth parents choosing an adoptive family for their child. Through our domestic waiting children program, we connect you with children waiting for families in the Minnesota foster care system. Visit our Domestic Adoption page >
If you are adopted, or a member of your family is adopted, we offer a host of post adoption services including search and background, educational and social events, peer support groups and travel opportunities—all designed to help adoptees and their families connect with personal history and culture, as well as with the larger adoption community. Home Study & Post-Placement Supervision Only
We offer comprehensive home study services and post-placement supervision to families residing in Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, Maryland, and Virginia for the adoption of a child through a source other than Children's Home or Lutheran Social Service. International Child Welfare
Every day, through our international adoption programs, our eyes are opened to the needs of at-risk children across the globe. We believe that adoption is only one aspect of efforts that support children globally. We support humanitarian projects that improve the care, protection, health and education of vulnerable children in twelve countries worldwide. Visit our International Child Welfare page >
We offer pregnancy and birth parent services to residents of Minnesota regardless of whether or not you are considering an adoption plan. Each person is unique in his/her decision making process--our workers will listen to your concerns and offer neutral, non-judgmental counseling. We can also help you to identify and make referrals to needed services available in your community. Visit our Pregnancy and Birth Parent Services page >
