Education & Support

CHSFS is a Hague-accredited agency. Some education offerings are Hauge-compliant and can be used to fulfill Hague education requirements.  

Education and support empowers adoptive families and adopted individuals to continue to grow, learn and succeed. Children’s Home Society & Family Services offers programs tailored to the needs of all persons, families and communities involved in international and domestic adoption, as well as continuing education for Child Welfare professionals. Our education and support offerings are open to all members of the adoption circle who have been shaped by adoption, regardless of placing agency.
 

In-Person Education & Support

For families living within our direct service area, CHSFS offers the chance for adoptive families to meet face-to-face with staff and other adoptive parents and children through classes and groups. Many opportunities are available regardless of the agency through which a child was placed, and include:

• Groups for children, youth, parents and families
• Day camps for school-aged children which focus on adoption and culture
• Pre-adoption education classes
• Adoptive Families Conference

Online Education

Designed with families outside of our direct service area in mind, CHSFS offers many online educational opportunities. Through a combination of both live and pre-recorded webinars (classes and workshops presented over the Internet, live and with visual aids) and other online curriculum we hope to prepare and support every family throughout the adoption journey.

• Adoption-Focused Parenting Webinars
  Adoption adds new and different facets to parenting. Through our adoption-focused parenting webinars, CHSFS aims to share knowledge and provide resources and tools to help adoptive parents navigate their unique roles. 
   
• Ethiopia-Focused Adoptive Families Webinars
  The number of families with children adopted from Ethiopia continues grow. Because the community of families who have adopted from Ethiopia is so new, CHSFS recognizes a special need for culturally-specific education and support. Through our Ethiopia-focused adoptive families webinars, we hope to help fulfill that need!
   
• General Parenting & Child Development Webinars
  Our general parenting webinars address topics from the basics of childcare through the challenges all families face. Explore issues relevant to your family, such as learning disabilities and raising kids in the 21st century.
   
• Pre-recorded Online Education for Adoptive Families
  Because we are all busy, CHSFS also offers pre-recorded webinars that can be viewed 24 hours a day. Many of the webinars that are presented live are also offered in a pre-recorded versionso that all families can benefit.
