We help strengthen individual and family relationships.

Our educational groups and services help both men and women learn important skills to build healthy relationships, regulate emotions, resolve conflicts, communicate respectfully and eliminate abusive behaviors. Groups are gender-specific. A strong focus is placed on accountability for one's actions in a group setting where participants learn from one another.

Over 95 percent of Children’s Home Society & Family Services clients report they have learned steps to avoid being verbally or physically abusive. In their own words:

“Out of a very bad incident came a fulfilling and educational experience.”

“Classes were relaxed, and serious issues were discussed without any of us feeling belittled.”

“I learned a lot about myself that I never would have thought of otherwise.”

Program participants include both court-ordered and self-referred individuals.  For more information or to register for orientation, call us at 952.432.4145

  • Men's groups are open groups and held once weekly for 16 weeks. Orientation for the men's 16 week groups are held every second and fourth Thursday of the month, except holidays.
  • Women's groups are closed groups and held once weekly for 12 weeks, twice a year. Pre-registration is required.

A child’s exposure to one parent abusing the other is the strongest risk factor for transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next. If you are a victim of abuse, or believe someone you know is, please call for assistance 952.432.4145.

Domestic Abuse & Anger Management Services for Teens

Services are available for teens that have been referred through Dakota County Probation only.

Teens will learn about their risk-taking behavior, what trust means for them, reasons they give into peer pressure, entitlement, families, grief and loss, attachment, core hurts, disrespect, anger and shame, taking responsibility for offending behavior, empathy, self-forgiveness, and forgiving others in a safe, supportive environment.

  • Teen groups are held at our Apple Valley location on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Our next scheduled group meets October 8, 15, 22 & 29, 2011.
