Abuse is any systematic pattern of behaviors in a relationship that one uses to gain or maintain physical and psychological control over another. Domestic abuse adversely affects individuals, families and society in general. Without treatment, children who are victims of or witnesses to domestic abuse are at significant risk for delinquency, substance abuse, school dropout and difficulties in their own relationships.
