As an expectant father, you may be wondering about your options. You may have questions, concerns and fears regarding your situation.

If you chose to continue the pregnancy, you have two options: 1) Become a parent or 2) Take part in the open adoption process.

You and the mother of your child can meet with a pregnancy counselor together or separately. A Children’s Home Society & Family Services counselor will help you carefully consider either alternative, and support you with the education, counseling and resources you may need, both during pregnancy and after the child is born.

Your CHSFS pregnancy counselor will provide

  • Free and confidential counseling services
  • A neutral environment
  • Meetings in a location where you feel comfortable
  • Access to decision making and budget planning tools, and assistance with using them
  • Information and resources on parenting
  • Information and resources on open adoption
  • An open discussion about ending your pregnancy prematurely

The Minnesota Fathers' Adoption Registry is available to men who believe they have fathered a child. Men may register any time during the nine months of pregnancy and up until 30 days after the birth of the child. This registry ensures that a man will be notified if an adoption plan is being made.

Our Minnesota-based counselors are available to meet with you to offer support and decision-making counseling and planning.
