People who are single can make great adoptive parents. Children’s Home Society & Family Services has paired hundreds of children with caring, single parents.

  • Singles age 25 and up can adopt through the Minnesota’s Waiting Children program, which places children from the Minnesota foster care system with families living in Minnesota. The Minnesota Waiting adoption program accounts for many of our single parent placements. These adoptions include children with known medical conditions, issues of abuse and neglect, older children and siblings. Our single parents adoptive families will tell you that the challenges of this journey are many and so can be the rewards.  If you have the patience, flexibility, sense of humor, commitment and deep love that it takes, yours could be an ideal a home for a waiting child. You will be opening up your mind and heart in ways you may never have imagined.
  • Singles can also adopt through our Domestic Infant Adoption program. Our experience has shown that single parents tend to wait longer than partnered couples in the Domestic Infant program, but with our networking and outreach approach, we will support and facilitate your Domestic Infant Adoption process for the best chances of matching with a birthfamily.
  • Waiting International Children seeks families for children from across the globe. The policies for international adoption vary by country, and are subject to change.  Many waiting international children have found permanent loving homes in single parent families.  Please contact us at 651.646.7771 or at welcome@chsfs.org to learn more about these programs.
