Strong and Peaceful Families strengthens families and breaks the cycle of violence. It provides outreach, in-home case management, education, supportive services and referrals to community-based services for Ramsey County families who have experienced domestic violence. Strong and Peaceful Families helps children who have witnessed and lived through experiences of domestic violence cope and thrive as part of a strong, functional family. Each family is evaluated to assess the parent and child's immediate needs and to identify the most pressing needs that must be addressed to protect the children and stabilize the home. After assessment, a case manager works closely with the parent to create goals for the future that build on their family's strengths. Parents receive supportive coaching though group sessions and one-to-one meetings that address topics such as: parenting after domestic violence, breaking the cycle of family violence, finances, employment, education, support networks, mental and physical health, and resources for chemical dependency. Families served by this program are referred by the Joint Prosecution Unit of the St. Paul and Ramsey County Attorneys offices.
