People Incorporated Acquires Mental Health Programs from Children’s Home Society & Family Services

Critical care maintained to over 1,000 clients in six-county metro area

St. Paul, MN - Dec 30, 2011 - People Incorporated Mental Health Services, the state’s largest nonprofit working exclusively in the adult mental health field, is expanding its care to children. The organization announced today that it has acquired an array of programs supporting children’s mental health from St. Paul-based Children’s Home Society & Family Services (Children’s Home). The programs, which will continue without disruption, branch throughout a six-county metro area and currently serve about 1,000 clients.

According to Maureen Warren, CEO of Children’s Home, “We are delighted that our clients’ care will be uninterrupted and that our staff and programs can thrive as part of People Incorporated. This acquisition allows each organization to focus on our respective areas of expertise.”

Transitioning services include individual and family counseling, early childhood mental health, school-linked counseling, day treatment for children, domestic abuse prevention, anger management, and parent support services. These programs will begin operating as the new People Incorporated Children’s Services division on January 1.

“This move combines People Incorporated’s long history of managing and growing programs for people with mental health needs with Children’s Home’s expertise in working with children,” said
Dr. Tim Burkett, CEO of People Incorporated. “We’ll use this acquisition as a springboard to develop innovative early intervention programs for children and families; a critical area.”

People Incorporated Mental Health Services, founded in 1969, promotes and secures independence for people with mental illness. The organization operates 40+ programs throughout the Twin Cities metro area, including services for the homeless, crisis management services, drop-in centers, in-home living-skills programs, and a range of residential homes. Operating with an annual budget of $33.5 million, People Incorporated serves over 6,500 people with mental illness annually. Please visit www.PeopleIncorporated.org.

Founded in 1889, Children’s Home Society & Family Services works to provide every child with security, opportunity and a loving family. Beginning January 1, Children’s Home will sharpen its focus on adoption and early learning services.
