I was in a bad place. I lost my job, I had two children depending on me, I was suffering from depression, I wasn’t getting along with my baby’s father, and I just couldn’t make ends meet. To make matters worse, we got evicted, so we moved in with my parents and that was a strain. I was pretty much down and out to the point of desperation. My poor kids.

That’s when I met with a parent support specialist at Children’s Home Society & Family Services. She helped me get back on track. She was so kind, she didn’t judge me; I could just tell she wanted to help me and my children.

I had a bunch more struggles; I got arrested for writing bad checks, my baby’s father and I had some disputes, but my parent support specialist helped me through the rough patches. My depression is now being treated because she was able to help me get connected to mental health services. I’m on medication and working through things during therapy sessions. She also helped me apply for housing; my family and I now have an apartment of our own.

This all gave me the confidence and drive to find a good job. I have stability! My children have stability! I am a successful mother, an independent woman and my relationship with my baby’s father has improved.  I still work with CHSFS – they have helped me feel so much better about myself. Strength and independence seemed so unattainable a few months ago. What a gift.
